What is the best way to handle it?
Just read a blog and comments that got me thinking. The blog was all about being kind to your neighbors and not hiding from sinners. I get that, but we should do that everyday. She also said church harvest parties are more or less dumb, because they are just churchy Halloween, they only serve those who already go to church. And I imagine she does have a point, many times they are. One of the commenters said she does not participate in halloween because of all the gore that comes with it.
So I'm sure that there are non-Christians who would like to have a safe, not scary place to take their kids for Halloween, because who doesn't like dressing up and getting free stuff. What if the church made it an true outreach to people who didn't want the scary and gore things that a lot of people drag out at Halloween? Let them know the church is there and cares about them and their kids. It would take a lot of work to get people to come and even more to actually get them to come to know Christ. One can plant the seed and another water it, but God makes it grow.
I don't have the answer, just trying to share Jesus.

PS:It hasn't been to big of a thing in Australia, but that's changing from what I see. We even got a flyer tonight from the Canadian family saying put this pumpkin out if you want trick-or-treaters. This family I believe may go to church with us, ugh. Globalization isn't always good. The stores stock plenty of scary things, hopefully I've kept most of them out of Abigail's sight, no need to scare her or make her lust after the piles of candy.
